Clif Aldridge

Clif was diagnosed with MPNST (Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor) during his Senior Year of college at ISU. Clif fought a long battle against MPNST and even conquered it for a year. The cancer came back aggressively after that period of tranquility and on January 9th, Clif passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends.
While his personal battle is over, Clif's drive to help others continues onward with the Clif Rocks! Fund. The Clif Rocks! Fund has been created to honor Clif's wishes to help young people battling cancer as well as the advancement of both artistic and educational opportunities for them.
On this site you will find ways in which you can help Clif's cause, either by making a donation, hosting a fund-raising event or by spreading the word. Every contribution, small or large, is deeply appreciated by the Aldridge Family and those it will help.

  • Happy Thanksgiving Nov 18, 2009 From Sue Aldridge
Hello all. Well, the next leg of the journey begins tomorrow. Clif is to have 5 weeks of radiation to help with the pain he's experiencing. Dr. Sapiente, at Carle, met with us today. He feels that it will help Clif greatly.

As for clinical trials, Clif and I made a trip up to the University of Chicago to meet with Dr. Undevia (who couldn't have been much over the age of 12, ie...young, positive, brilliant and someone who could talk to Clif honestly and openly about trials and what to expect) There is a trial there in which we are interested. Clif qualifies, and it's a definite possibility. He has a spot right now. It's a target drug, meaning that it's going over something very specific in the cancer cells. This morning we were notified that Sloane-Kittering in NY, has just opened up a new study on MPNST...Clif's cancer. I called today and it's being determined whether or not Clif qualifies for the trial. If he does, we'll be flying out to NY. It's the only trial that is seemingly targeted at MPNST, so that's why it's so good for him. It's either a phase 2 or phase 3 trial, which is also very good. This afternoon we were notified that Moffit, down in Tampa, also agreed to see Clif, although the trials that they have are not quite as specific to MPNST. With all of the trials he has to wait a couple of weeks after finishing the radiation to begin, so it will happen after the beginning of 2010.

It's a beginning however, and we're breathing a bit easier to know that things are beginning to happen. His spirits remain up beat, but that's do mostly because of the wonderful group of friends, of his (and ours) that continue surround him with love and support and won't let him begin to feel down. The emails, the cards and letters that have been sent, truly have helped in the last few days when things seemed to be moving so slowly. He's eating again which is big,...flying remote controlled air planes..thanks Joel, playing the new Call of Duty...I still don't understand that one, and reading some good books, (no Stacy not Scarlet Letter)...you've all been just great. The visits have cheered us all that he's been getting ...and no, I'm not hovering...I let him sit on the couch by himself. ;o)

For those of you not in the Champaign area...this town is utterly amazing. We will never be able to thank you enough for being our rock...more like mountain... on which to hold on to in this difficult time. We are truly blessed.

As soon as we know more about where he might go in January, I'll let you know. ...and to those of you in the NY area...if we come out, I'll for sure let you know...it was on Clif's todo list...going to NY...so maybe...well, maybe it's kismet.

Happy Thanksgiving too all of you. and again, many thanks.much loves
